When and where does the chapter meet?
The NSAI Charleston, WV Chapter meets regularly on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Unless otherwise noted, all meetings take place at the Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC Entertainment Law Group office in the Levine Professional Building, located on Charleston’s Corridor G at 301 RHL Boulevard – Suite 100 (lower level), Charleston, West Virginia 25309. What happens at chapter meetings?
Our chapter meetings include three components:
- a songwriting or music business lesson from NSAI’s curriculum, written by professional songwriters and music industry professionals;
- a brief discussion on music business and law by our Chapter Coordinator, Kevin Levine, Esq., MBA; and
- the opportunity to perform one original musical composition for the chapter to evaluate.
The group song evaluation portion of our meetings is an excellent opportunity for songwriters to troubleshoot and fine-tune their original songs and improve their “performance chops” in a comfortable, friendly, and encouraging venue. Meeting attendees who plan to perform their songs for chapter evaluation must bring their own instruments or compact discs containing sound recordings of their compositions. Additionally, all meeting attendees who wish to perform their songs for evaluation must bring twelve (12) lyric sheets to the meeting and will be required to sign song consent forms before performing their songs.
Who may attend chapter meetings?
NSAI members may attend chapter meetings at any NSAI regional chapter at no cost. Those who are not NSAI members may attend two meetings at the NSAI Charleston, WV Chapter or any other NSAI chapter at no cost. However, after attending his or her two free meetings, each non-member is responsible for payment of a $15 attendance fee for each subsequent meeting.
How how formal are chapter meetings?
Chapter meetings are very relaxed and informal. However, we do ask that attendees exercise discretion when entering late and refrain from speaking during lessons and when other members have the floor.
